An international group of scientists with the help of advanced technology has proved that the mysterious yellow glass of the Libyan desert, from which was made the famous pendant of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamen, is of extraterrestrial origin and was formed as a result of a meteorite impact on the surface of the Earth. About it writes Phys.org.
Researchers from Germany, Egypt and Morocco studied samples of so-called yellow glass, a fragment of which is contained in a pendant found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. The material is not similar in composition to any natural glass in the world. In 1996, its age was determined to be about 29 million years. It was later determined that the original material consisted of quartz grains covered with mixed clay minerals, as well as iron and titanium oxides.
